Inexperienced and undereducated....

Post by Tin Man » Mon Dec 28, 2015 7:34 pm

......that would be an understatement. It would appear that she got her "participation" trophy in math class.
She got her CDL in May 2015 . It might behoove that trucking company to work up a co-driver program for any future hires......

Here's what the bridge (and signage) looked like prior to her missing that turn....

We can be grateful she didn't kill any innocents. Hopefully her driving privilege will be reconsidered.

It's DOTs fault  , they didn't post all of the necessary signs.
Per the signs, NO box trucks with two axils over 12000#. 6000#/axil
 She was in a tractor trailer (2 component) rig with 5 axils. 5x6000= 30000# and only the tractor was on the span.
Add in a safety factor and it's obvious the bridge was just old and badly engineered.

she saw the 6000lb limit sign, she knew he truck was 30 tons, did not understand how to translate tons into pounds. Seriously!

I'd say she misread 6000 lbs for 60,000 lbs. But then it's a penske rent a truck with a rent -a -driver so what do you expect !

WOW! I can't believe she didn't feel comfortable backing up to avoid the whole mess. I wonder how she was able to make any deliveries in the past 6 months? By the looks at that bridge I wouldn't want to drive my pickup truck over it let alone a tractor trailer.

Not long ago (1 1/2 year?) a 80 ton weighting superlative crane passed a Baileys bridge rated for 40 tons...Well he didn't pass, ... just like this young "bright" guy. Central valley's main commuter road was closed for several days... Very bright...

A few weeks ago 2 sand dump trucks made the same stupidity and left several villages in-communicated. Dumb dumpers to go both at the same time over a provisional bridge for which none was rated.

I can't believe she was able to pass the "100' straight line back" portion of the CDL Skills Test, let alone the "Parallel Park" portion.

I want names. What "driving school" passed her?

BTW, I was unaware that WalMart shipped anything in trucks owned by other.

I drove over the road for many years. I now work at a warehouse spotting (parking) and moving trailers all day.

When I got my CDL in 1993, I seem to remember that one had to have the "ability to read, write, speak, and understand English" in order to obtain a CDL.

In my current position I come into contact with inbound drivers on a daily basis. Many of them go to the wrong area of the warehouse looking for the receiving office and get lost driving around in circles in my yard. When I go to assist them I am amazed at how many cannot read our signs or even speak rudimentary English. I have actually come in contact with several that could not speak even on word of our language. These in many cases are drivers that work for major U.S. Carriers.

Something like the subject of this thread does not surprise me in the least!

Today came in the notice that my niece Steffi is going to marry...She is the first female trucker in the family and i'd say quite smart. I do not believe she is as dump as uncle Heino the oldest trucker in the family.

Judging from some of the recent public-school-graduates who I've had the "privilege" of training in the ways of mixer driving... My guess is Ms "Brights" reasoning went something like this:

"I know I can't lift six tons... I also know I can't lift this here truck... Ergo; this truck weighs six tons... Here we go..."
