Took my sidecar windscreen off and added some material under the pleather where the metal parts contact the paint to protect the paint from scratches (can’t see it in the pics). While I had everything off and apart I trimmed the actual windscreen down about an inch. I did it on the bottom and re-drilled the bolt holes (hides any sins from cutting and I didn’t have to radius or detail finish the edge). Not a huge change from stock, but I can see it..... and I likes it :beerchug:

Took my sidecar windscreen off...
Looks good.

Hope you don't mind, but I edited your post and properly oriented your sideways images, Homeslice.

Thanks man. For some reason I can’t get them to orient right half the time. Used to work fine..... but no longer. I’m sure it has something to do with the fact the 99% of my posts are done from my phone.

How do you fix them? Computer?

As a result of my J-O-B and "honey-do's", I hadn't been able to complete the clutch throw-out bearing replacement on the 'Bear. I completed that today and fired it up for a short spin up and down my road. Good to go!

After that, I decided to readjust the fairing to a more reclined position, with the top edge closer to me, in hopes of better weather protection and to address the awkward configuration of my improvised fairing support struts.

2020-02-01 18.14.16.jpg

Tilting the fairing back allowed me to replace the long mounting bolts with shorter bolts, which cleaned up the cockpit nicely.

2020-02-01 18.15.00.jpg

Tomorrow the temperature is supposed to reach 58°F, so the missus and I plan to take the Little Red Bear on a nice ride. It'll be a good opportunity to see how effective the fairing adjustment actually is.

Well, I had just a fantastic 59°F day of riding the Lil' Red Bear. First, the missus, pup, and I returned some RedBox movies and topped-off the bike with gas, then did some brief backroads exploring. It was a relatively short trip because the temperatures were still cool and the wife wanted to get the dog back in the house.

After dropping off the pooch, m'lady and I took the 'Bear to explore the "mean streets" of Gordonsville, house-gazing, as we like to do. Upon heading out of town in a direction we don't normally travel, I suggested that we visit Castle Hill Cidery, a place on the route that I've wanted to check out since we move to the area. She wasn't so keen on it, but she obliged me.

It ended up being a nice place, nestled squarely on a well-manicured farm in the scenic foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. We ordered a "flight" of their most popular hard ciders and had enjoyable conversation with the staff and other patrons. The missus was well pleased and thanked me for introducing her to a new and enjoyable place.

Unfortunately, upon re-mounting the Patrol to depart, I bumped my crazed and cracked windscreen-mounted air deflector and finished it off, breaking it in twain. (I'm actually this clumsy, I swear it wasn't the cider sampler :D )

2020-02-02 16.40.43.jpg

So, since the weather was so nice and I had nothing else on the Sunday afternoon agenda, I decided to make a replacement.

I took the original Honda Goldwing windscreen from my Mobile Chernobyl tall windscreen modification and used it as Plexiglass donor material.

2020-02-02 16.41.06.jpg

Some cutting with the Dremel Moto-tool and I had half a windscreen to mount.

2020-02-02 16.41.18.jpg

Definitely too wide, so back to the cutting...

2020-02-02 16.41.29.jpg
2020-02-02 16.41.39.jpg

Still quite tall...

2020-02-02 16.41.50.jpg

SO, I cut it down to a height slightly taller than the original and significantly wider.

2020-02-02 16.42.17.jpg
2020-02-02 16.42.30.jpg

It's not yet a finished product, but the missus and I took a quick test ride on our road, but didn't exceed 45mph. The deflector definitely deflects some air, but the true test will come tomorrow, when I ride the bike to work. If it works out well, I'll smooth the edges and polish the plastic.

Oh, also, while I had the assembly apart, I decided to address the annoying glare I would get from a part of the aluminum mount.

I didn't have any flat black spray paint on-hand, so hopefully the satin black will do the trick.

Unfortunately satin black filters out UVB and increases UVA, so now you're at greater risk of heart disease and cancer........ :naughty:
