Final Drive yoke input play ?

Post by DisplacedYooper » Sat May 27, 2023 7:46 am

Hey Ya Hozers,
Last week after getting the Kabul Kab Service out of hibernation,
Took it out for a ride to get fresh gas.
I was hearing a growl, low pitched whining.
Thinking it could be a Differential Gear noise,
My drive shaft yoke at the pinion bearing,
You can move it ever slightly up and down.
I know Ural's don't have Exact Tolerances,
But am I in for a Final Drive Rebuild?

Most likely. None of mine have ever experienced play like that.

It is fairly easy to remove the yoke, then pull the pinion gear and bearing. Keep the input end of the final drive pointed up and you won't even disturb the loose bearings on the small end of the pinion. I had mine out the other day. You could get lucky and it may only be the outer bearing.

Thank You,
I did buy a Spare Final Drive two years ago
Off a Wrecked bike.
So I do a swap, and rebuild this one.
Just another day in the shop instead of out riding.
