Re: 22 July - Yorktown, VA to Columbus, OH

Good travels on your trip. It has rained here everyday but two since July 1, calling for rain everyday this week, maybe it will let up some. You'll be about ten mile from me on your trek past Harrisonburg heading west, I'll meet you there and let you buy me lunch. :D West of Harrisonburg you'll hit ...

Re: Final Drive??? Ever heard of this?

The FD should be vented, my 2012 has the vent in the dipstick/filler cap, new models have a separate vent. If it's not vented or the vent is clogged, I guess it could build pressure and deform the gasket. If it's too hot to touch for a second or two after running awhile you may have a sticky brake h...

Re: Planning Cross-country USA on a 2012 Gear-Up

Did a x-country last summer. 26 mpg fully loaded is about right. Average miles per day 200-300 depending on terrain, wind and mechanical failures.

Re: Changing main shaft u joint

You should have a rubber boot on the sidecar drive shaft, loosen the clamps and slide the boot toward the sidecar. You'll see how the shaft from the FD slides into the SD driveshaft. Before putting it back together, grease those splines as well and note how the two u-joints are aligned before remova...

Re: Ready for the 4th of July

I used to own a restored 1952 M38 Jeep that I would run in the 4th and Veteran's Day parades. Very hard on the clutch and be careful of over heating, the pace is only as fast as the slowest walker. Good luck.

Re: Main Drive shaft replacement.

If you're removing the yoke that exits the rear of the transmission and spins the donut you will first have to remove the speedometer drive gear, not hard.

Of course you'll do it with the transmission on the bike, same procedure.
