Re: My Ural (Mis?)Adventure, so far.......

Fresh oils, put a new tire up front so my bike’s now riding on relatively new tires all around, new brake pads, new spark plugs,....., new speedometer and odometer. The valves, surprisingly, were all within spec. I hosted a maintenance day at my home yesterday. Bad weather kept the fair weather ride...

Re: Cheap but Reliable Bluetooth Motorcycle Helmet?

Most of the best set-ups are for a bluetooth communicator which you install on a helmet. To get an integrated system, it seems there is no middle path; it's either super expensive, or it's pretty cheap. A cheap price isn't necessarily bad. This seems to be what you're looking for and it's just about...

Re: Long ride planning and advice request

Make sure your pusher is good. If you're already at 4,000 km, you might want to change it before you head out in March. The pusher goes fast when you're travelling fast for long distances. Don't just put the spare on and then keep the worn pusher as a spare. Make sure both are relatively new/good to...

A bit of fun Saturday, before "the incident".

Re: What did you do ON your Ural today?

Not today, but yesterday, I went for a nice dual-sport ride. I was not the only Ural. Bill (Builtea) was along again on his retro. Bill tried to use his Ural to climb a big game fence at about 21:00 in this video. Bill was behind me, so you don't see the accident, but if you listen closely, you can ...

Re: My Ural (Mis?)Adventure, so far.......

Here's a video of the ride. Bill had his accident at the corner that I took at about 21:00 in to this video.

Re: My Ural (Mis?)Adventure, so far.......

I hope Bill recovers quickly. So.....are you somehow related to WTF Chuck? You do seem to be a magnet for trouble. Always enjoyed your posts, and thought I'd like to meet you... but now I'm starting to think I would run the other way. :P  WTF Chuck: https://farm1.staticflickr.com/366/195648...

Re: My Ural (Mis?)Adventure, so far.......

Dang, man. Maybe I should just ride alone. Bill (Builtea) got in a wreck today. I was leading him, but we were riding at the back of a group of about 5 dual sport bikes. We had been on a straightaway for a while and most of the 2-wheelers had gotten way up ahead of us on the straight. I'm going full...

Re: What did you do ON your Ural today?

Gave the bike a good 100 mile shakedown with fresh brake pads. The bike's stopping power is great. Not only are the brake pads new, two of the three tires are really new. I'm sure the Heidenau tire on the rear has something to do with it. Seems to make a bigger contact patch on the ground than the D...

Re: My Ural (Mis?)Adventure, so far.......

I forgot just how good this bike can be at stopping. Brand new sidecar tire and pusher tire (I'll replace the front tire in about a week) with brand new brake pads all around and this bike can stop extremely well. The bike's running so well, it's got me worried. It always seems to be that the bike i...

Re: What did you do to your Ural today?

I installed new brake pads on the rear and sidecar brakes. No riding as the roads are coated with a good layer of ice. Hopefully it'll warm up and melt the ice in a couple days and I can check it out.

Re: My Ural (Mis?)Adventure, so far.......

I'm glad I got about 300 miles worth of fun in on Saturday, because this week is NOT going to be good motorcycle weather in Texas. I'll ride in the snow, but it's looking like freezing rain with ice covered roads. Ummmm, no thank you. I'm sure I can handle it, but I don't want to be a hockey puck fo...

Re: My Ural (Mis?)Adventure, so far.......

This will be my last post on my travails on jwaller's thread. My problems are all solved. It was a short in the headlight bucket which I taped and I padded the rough edge the wire rubbed on with a piece of bicycle inner tube. I took it out for a test run today, rough roads and 65 for a few miles on...
