Motorcycle Ergonomics

Some of you may be familiar with this neat site: https://cycle-ergo.com/ Essentially, you put in your height and inseam measurement, and then it'll show your body position on various bikes. You can play with handlebar setback, handlebar risers, peg setback or rise, etc and your dummy will adjust sup...

Re: Crankshaft bearing shields: an option?

Interesting. There's often a thing called a wiper found on shafts for parts that go in-and-out like telescoping forks (as opposed to round-and-round, like the crank). The wiper "wipes" the shaft ahead of the seal and keeps crud from riding on the shaft through the seal, wearing out the seal faster a...

Re: C-19 and the Ural Community (Corrected Title)

The nearest thing I can compare it to was when Hurricane Katrina hit down in New Orleans. People said hurricane passed through, lots of wind and rain, then the sky cleared. The day after was bright blue sky and no wind, people out assessing their roofs and any other wind damage. And then, in the cle...

Re: Netflix Binge! (your thumbs-up recomendations)

Lillihammer is great! Here are three quirky ones we've gotten into that I haven't seen mentioned yet: Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories (on Netflix) - one reviewer called it "video chamber music". A mysterious chef runs a diner in Tokyo that's only open from midnight to seven am. Each episode is it's ow...

Found this from an ancient (2000) Ural manual. Good explanation of alignment & how to correct for left or right pull:

Re: What's everyone doing to pass the time in isolation?

Like many of us perhaps, I have for years had things to do around the house that always stayed at the bottom of the list because of almost anything else I could find to do. That's why they stayed down there forever. Now, unfortunately, there isn't any reason not to do them.

Re: Russian Forks

I have a 2004 Troyka that had Russian forks - since replaced with Paiolis. When I reworked them I wrote to Jason at IMZ to ask the the same question you're asking. Jason told me they take 135ml of 15wt oil. I ended up using Amsoil "Shock Therapy" and it worked fine. The biggest problem you'll have i...

This is from the National Bearing company: https://www.nationalprecision.com/library/articles/bearing-basics.php#mount How to Mount Bearings When bearings are mounted incorrectly the balls will cause brinelling on the raceway and undermine bearing performance and life. Brinelling (dents) as small as...

Re: 750 crankshaft installation

Here's Van's video on crank installation: https://youtu.be/h5hLl-xKAU4 The basic principles to keep in mind is not stressing the bearing by applying pressure to the wrong race. If you pound on the crank from the back, you're applying force to the inner race of the front bearing. What you want to do ...

Re: CRAP is cancelled

Good decision. Hope we are out of this mess soon, but it isn't going to be just like - snap! - one day it's over. It'll burn itself out in various places at different times and you'll still have rebounds.

Costco is also treating their employees right. They are serving them breakfast and lunch three days a week and have announced that every single employee will get a $2.00/hour raise delivered in a big check in April.

Went to Costco and have to applaud them. They obviously had professional advice and then rolled it out to all the locations like a military operation. They are wiping down the cart handles, staging entrance using timed queuing so that the store stays relatively empty and people are spread out. Every...
