I'm actually curious what book that is on fasteners.

My fav and go-to, Machinery's Handbook. OLD ones are selling for big bucks. The one I'd like to have now is the 1995 Large Print 25th Edition.

But if the cylinder is not warm/hot it is not burning fuel. Check for fuel in float bowl.

Fuel cap vent. Next time it happens crack the cap open to let some air in.

Check fuel tank strainer.

Do you have in-line filters? If so, check them.

But you're losing about 20% its capacity, and those old 'over center' caps are notorious leakers.

Just another 'me too' on battery experience ... 10 years on a motorcycle battery is monumental; I've never gotten past 5 years on any bike I've ever owned.

Now replace it.
