Re: Need some basic help - air filter
I finally got it off as per suggestion by granddaddy John. Thanks - worked like a charm. Got filter cleaned - just need time opportunity to reassemble it all. Couldn't find metric button heads at local big box hardware stores, well none that matched diameter (where too small) or had no matching (nyl...

Need some basic help - air filter
Hey all, As I said in my lat post - I'm learning about working on my rig by working on it. I finally got the opportunity to work on doing an air filter service. Had to use plenty of liquid wrench, several attempts, and an overnight soak, and finally had to get a breaker bar to get the left side moun...

Re: Simple inquiry - spark plug condition
Thanks for the feedback, Lew. I have done all at least twice, except never synchronized (or checked for balance) carbs or checked air filter. Had to check/adjust timing when I put on the new oil filter conversion kit. I suppose I was always leery to mess with it beyond that, since it always starts u...

Re: Simple inquiry - spark plug condition
Yeah....
I don't think the air filter has been touched since I got it. Didn't think I put enough miles on it to worry about it yet.
I guess that will be next on the agenda.
Thanks for the heads up.

Simple inquiry - spark plug condition
Did a mini maintenance today to get out of winter mode, and replaced spark plugs as part of that. Was dumbfounded to find that the old left side (on right in pic) plug was gapped at .030, and on the right at 0.020. Would that cause any issues? Despite appearances on the plugs, I lose minimal if any ...

Re: Oil filter conversion...
Ok, got the rotor mounted. Learned the marks are useless. Really need different reference marks to get everything aligned properly. When everything was aligned as in the picture, the engine would not start. Then I recalled that the engine turned when I was loosening that center screw to take the who...

Re: Oil filter conversion...
You probably have run the video on the conversion, so the main points are there. I did replace the existing seal, able to hook it out wiht my finger. You can drive it out by using a socket that fits in the front hole to tap it out or at least start it moving. I did use a socket to be sure it seated...

Oil filter conversion...
So, after having bought the oil filter conversion kit, I finally got around to working on installing it today. Still not comfortable wrenching - but it is one of my life challenge list to become more familiar so I went at it. I am 3 hours in on the conversion, and not quite done yet. A quick diversi...

Well, yes it is, that is why it stuck to the magnetic oil drain plug.TheWildOne wrote:I'd want to know what it's made of. Is it attracted by a magnet ?

Re: 5000km oil change - Hey that doesn't look right
Finally got the rig to Ural of NE, where I bought it. In the process I ended up getting an Aluma 638BT) trailer based on info from here on the forums, so I can move the bike on my own with the Honda CRV (1500 lbs tow limit puts a lt of trailers out of contention). Looks like roger might have it. Ura...

5000km oil change - Hey that doesn't look right
Still learning doing basic maintenance myself - did my 2nd oil change on my Ural today at about 5500km. The first oil change I did on my own at 3000 km last year was unremarkable, normal amount of swarf; dropped the oil pan - not even shavings of any kind in there back then. Today things where a bit...

Saw a GU in Smithfield, RI today
We exchanged some pleasantries during stopped traffic at a red light. Indicated I had a rig as well. Saw you head one way then I left RallyPoint, saw you again on the way back when we talked. Looks like you picked up a passenger. 8) Hoping you are a SS member as well, maybe we can get together somet...
