Re: Ural Relay Issue

I thought this was a good learning experience for the OP. So often we give answers and the person asking the question goes away with the answer, but no further knowledge. I think this was very helpful, some of it went over my head, but I got the gist of it. I thought the diagrams looked similar and...

Re: How much can these be ridden?

I find the limiting factor to be time rather than distance (though related). My average speed is between 35 and 45 MPH on back roads. If I can take my time I take the ural, if I need to be somewhere and back home by a certain time I take the vstrom on main roads.

Ural Relay Issue

I have a 2011 GU and I changed the battery and one of the relays under the seat just came apart. I found a possible replacement but I am not sure if it a good match. My knowledge of electrical stuff is zero. The wiring diagram looks similar but it is not the same. This is the old one. old.jpg This t...

Re: Help installing final drive

How much grease did you use on the drive spline and what position is the ring clip in? John I didn't use much. I had Loctite Moly paste that I brushed a thin coating on on the spline (M) and the housing (F) parts. When I took it apart both were dry as was wheel splines. I coated all of them with a ...

Re: Winter Riding

I use 1WD mostly. There has to be a good amount of snow to warrant putting it into 2WD since 2WD changes how it handles so much. The main issue I am concerned with is the salt on the roads- it is brutal on the Ural. I pre-treat the entire Ural with CRC 6-56 and it seems to work well. I get minimal r...

Re: Help installing final drive

I finally had the time to work on it and with help of the wife I was able to get the FD back on. What I did was essentially this: I angle the final drive to where the aft studs will start to go in the holes then push the front end and the rest of the studs slide in the mount holes. I am not mechanic...

Re: Help installing final drive

It is 2WD. I get both splines seated but then the bolts and holes dont match up. I did not lift the swing arm when doing this, so I will try that next.
Thnx

Re: Help installing final drive

I agree, great pics and explanation. In picture 3 my drive shaft is flush against the rubber mount/plate. The coupler is not supposed to go further into the spline (as you explained). So the real problem is I cant mount the final drive to the swing arm. The FD bolts are a little less than 1/4 inch f...

Help installing final drive

Howdy, I need some advice on installing my final drive on a 2011 GU. I removed it to grease the splines and service the zerks on the ujoints. Now when I try to get the main shaft drive into the coupler it does not want to get past the ring in the splines. I tried shoving it in pretty hard and it did...

Oil and Grease selections for linkages

I am due to grease and oil hinges, linkages, etc. Someone recommended spindle oil but, the parts store did not have any. I do have WD40, dry lube, silicone, white lithium and wheel bearing grease on hand. I was wondering what you all use for all the moving parts (excluding engine, transmission, & dr...
