Re: Idea: January/February Southern Arizona Rally in Quartzsite

is this the week around the time you geezers are gathered out there: I should be there by mid-January, and will be around the area for probably about 3 or 4 weeks, but I think the first full week in February is when many of the Ural riders are planning to be there. Of course it's a big area with lo...

RIP: KLR 650

2018 is apparently going to be the last year for the tried-and-true KLR 650.

I may be out there myself in January but on 2-wheels.

I'd probably buy a beer and burger for any guy who flies that far to see some old geezers and a couple of cactuses....cactii?.

And that's a cool link, thanks for sharing.

I thought it might be fun to record a bit of this bicycle riding with the pooch riding in the ....'sidecar'....

Re: Wow! An Electric Ural prototype!!!

Regenerative braking would be nice, too. Every little bit would help. Regen braking is more about engine braking when desending hills and such, since the actual regenerative charging of the battery is usually small. And yes it's part of the drivetrain, but usually controllable either with settings ...

Re: Wow! An Electric Ural prototype!!!

And for recharging, I think Ural should look at a robust solar charging array for those who go off grid with their rigs. Solar charging takes longer but with the space available on the bike, a larger set of panels in a workable idea. It could even be incorporated into the top of a tent or the over ...

Re: Bought an E-Bike

I calculated what it would cost me to commute 16 miles a day for a year, and it was around $25 I think it would be even less than that, especially if you pedal moderately. Electricity here costs about 8 cents per kwh. My results came to about .1 (one tenth) penny per mile if pedaling normally, trav...

Re: Bought an E-Bike

I changed out the factory saddle for a nice cushy, and wide, Schwinn Comfort Saddle. More Better! It's cold here today, but I took it for short ride with the new saddle, and it feels pretty good...it doesn't look as good, but I'm not too concerned with that anyway. BTW, I did some measurements using...

Re: Idea: January/February Southern Arizona Rally in Quartzsite

Just a reminder: I will be in that area, probably camping on BLM land, or in one of the LTVA zones, and could meet up with a group just about anywhere. Or, anyone wishing to camp in or near our YARC group would be more than welcome to join us. We are a friendly group! I'm thinking that where ever th...

Re: Idea: January/February Southern Arizona Rally in Quartzsite

Just a note for pet owners.... the small critters, scorpions, snakes, etc, are mostly in hibernation during the winter, even though it can be 70 to 80 degrees in the daytime, it might be 35-40 degrees overnight. But the coyotes patrol all winter.

Re: Idea: January/February Southern Arizona Rally in Quartzsite

Yep, maybe so....there are not many RV parks in Q that offer dry tent camping since most tent campers stay for free (or very cheap) out on the BLM or LTVA areas.

The place you picked out looks good too!

Re: Idea: January/February Southern Arizona Rally in Quartzsite

If you know of a camp ground that will meet my needs please share a name, phone number or link to it, thanks. Hey you're in luck! Info for you and others follows: I have made phone contact with Dennis, at Desert Gardens RV park, on the SW end of Quartzsite, at Exit 17 on I-10, located just south of...

Re: Bought an E-Bike

I agree it's not important, but its a useful fact if an official, or busybody gives you grief. Some don't appreciate the difference between a legal E assist bike, and high speed EV's that don't belong on MUT's and trails. Man, I'm in the boonies....there are no marked 'bike lanes' on the roads, onl...

Re: Bought an E-Bike

What PSI are you running? You can always inflate the fat tires more to decrease rolling resistance. I'm at about 30 psi, the max for these tires. I tried more psi in the rear, and guess what happened? The tire bulged and expanded to the point that the tire expanded past the rim, and the bead un-sea...
