Re: piston / cylinder improvements and sustained high speed
My knee jerk reaction to any query that includes 'Ural' and 'high speed' in the same sentence is 'You're looking at the wrong bike'.

Re: Rim strip make great cat toys
No one uses wraps of duct tape as a rim strip anymore? No I never use duct tape... gorilla tape is tougher . Yes it is. And it's a motherf r to get off when the time comes. Which is why I use half a roll of insulation tape over the rim tape. It is much easier to cut off when needed and costs pence ...

Re: Clutch fried at 600 miles. what?
But my question is a) with minimal mechanical experience other than routine stuff, is it a job I can do myself if I have to? If you know one end of a spanner from the other, I don't see why you can't fix it yourself. I'm no mechanic, I've just learned as I have fixed things for the last forty years...

I FB messaged the seller to tell him it isn't a BMW, but he hasn't responded. I think he knows we know.

Re: How did you come to riding a Ural?
First time I came upon a Ural was 1978. It was setting in a barn on remote Beaver Island, Michigan. It had been bought in Ukraine by a merchant marine and had been in the barn for maybe a decade. We got it to fire up and start, but realized the FD was shot once we rolled it out of the barn.... I bl...

Re: El Cheapo Tacho
That is the same as the one I have on my 2003, and the one I fitted to the Dnepr I used to own. The numbers you are quoting sound like the sort of numbers I would expect to see on mine, although I never take mine to 50mph in 3rd. My personal feeling is that they are accurate enough, don't bounce aro...

British guys, they do a load for charity at bike events, from weekend rallies all the way through to the TT. The Purple Helmets display team. They get up to some proper nonsense.

Re: Half drunk & wandering
I've made a couple of cereal box gaskets in my time - the last one was the sump gasket on a Ural 650, I rubbed a little grease into it to give it a bit of repellence and thought it would last a week or two. I sold it about a year later, still fitted and still oil tight.

Re: The last motorcycle on earth on Amazon prime
The Motorcycle Action Group here in the UK sought clarification on the ICE car ban from 2020, and the response from Government has come back that motorcycles are not included, so that is good news. Well, a bit good anyway.

Re: Sumthin' I've been noticin' lately
When I entered the world of Ural eight years ago, this forum was a complete godsend, and I doubt I would have stayed with the brand without it. The depth of knowledge here is invaluable, and the insights have helped me piece together the 'learning experiences' I have had. My pet peeve is when someon...

Re: Acewell Tachometer!!
Excellent! I like well thought out modifications, looks OE rather than add on. Yup, I gotta agree that it looks like it belongs on the bike. I think you need to replace those plastic plugs with some special buttons. I'd label one LOAD and another FIRE. Maybe put CHAFF or FLARES on another. Since yo...
