Re: Dual battery

My Dnepr is kickstart only, so it doesn't need a lot of cranking amps. I use a battery for an uninterruptable power supply, it is small enough that I could put two of them in the Dnepr battery tray, if I wanted to. That power supply battery has lasted longer than any of the motorcycle batteries I've...

Re: Muffler Upgrade For Raceway 2 into I High

I'm not convinced that a two into one exhaust is an upgrade.

Re: Dnepr valve seats

You don't need to add a lead substitute if you have the brass valve seats, they are not susceptible to valve seat erosion like steel seats are.
Just be sure to use the weaker stock Dnepr valve springs with the brass seats.

Re: DNEPR MT11 Mufflers

The baffles in my stock Dnepr mufflers came loose and got rattily. I replaced them with sportster mufflers, better construction and better chrome.

Re: Dnepr valve seats

Cast steel seats would be bad as they are not immune to micro welding caused valve seat recession like the brass seats are. Stellite valve seats are what is used in newer engines that use unleaded gasoline.

Re: Dnepr valve seats

My Dnepr MT-16 has brass valve seats for both the exhaust and intake seats. I bought a second set of factory brand new heads, so I could port them and match the intakes, they also have brass seats on both the intake and exhaust. Stock Dnepr valve springs are made of music wire. I have read that if s...

Re: shop organizing

Last summer, a large tree fell over from a neighbors lot and took out a corner of my garage, it tweaked the whole building in such a way that the building had to be demolished and rebuilt. Surprisingly, the contents of the garage were not damaged. I had three cars and the Dnepr in there. Insurance p...

Re: shop organizing

I have always hand sharpened drill bits. In machine shop school, they made us do nothing but sharpen all different sizes of bits for two days, I got quite good at it. Often there is a need to sharpen a drill bit with a flatter angle or a more acute angle, depending on the hardness or softness of the...

Re: Primitive Pete.

My junior high shop class teacher made kids who misused tools wear a primitive Pete sign around their necks for the rest of the class.
Do they still have shop classes for 14 year olds?

Re: dnepr mt 11,what are the problems

Dneprs don't need leaded gasoline. They have brass valve seats, so that there is no problem with microwelding of steel valves to steel valve seats, that causes erosion of the steel valve seats.

You can still buy Iodine at the drugstore. I use it to check that starch conversion is complete, when I'm mashing barley for beer. If all the starch is converted to sugar the Iodine does not change color, if there is still starch, it turns black.

Re: Front drum brake, cable to hydraulic?

Nash Metro brakes are almost the same a Morris Minor brakes, they are a little wider is all. Metro brakes on a Morris Minor was an upgrade.

You will still have to adjust the brakes, there is no automatic adjuster on either a Nash Metro or a Morris minor.
