Re: Ural Electric Tilt

It lets you adjust the lean out on the fly so the rig tracks straight regardless of the load on the bike or in the sidecar. Having had it for a number of years and many miles, I would never bother with it again. The electric tilt adjusters invariably failed and I didn’t really miss them when they did.

Re: Ural Electric Tilt

I’d like to think I drew more influence from CSM than DMC, myself! I didn’t like DMC’s design of their early Ural retrofit tilt systems, so I went with something different. +1 on this. The early DMC system suspended the entire weight of the right side of the chair on a single welded stud. It was do...

Re: WTB 2 into 1 headers/exhaust system for late 750 carb motor

It's thick, I'll give them that much. It would take many years to rust all the way through. Still, I don't know why they don't just make the f'ing thing out of stainless. Shouldn't an aftermarket exhaust be an upgrade from RPOC?

Grey? I wish it went grey. My Raceway header finish lasted exactly one winter and after that it peeled off completely, to be replaced with rust.

Re: BMW R9T with Ural Tub

If you plan on spending any time doing highway touring, a rig like this is a good way to get around that can still take the odd fire road without trepidation. It's not quite "finished" as a build, though. Just getting started. Buy this and soon you'll be trying to figure out how to install automotiv...

Re: How much should I ask?

I would ask for $5k and settle for $4k.

In my book, high miles are a plus on a Ural, and I'm not the only one who thinks that way.

Re: Russian Tools

I disagree that the Russian tools are low quality. There's not a lot of attention to finish, but the wrenches and special tools are every bit as good as my Craftsman gear and I've never had one fail or deform in 20 years. They're also highly resistant to rust. The screwdrivers and hex keys are anoth...

Re: WTB 2 into 1 headers/exhaust system for late 750 carb motor

I see getting rid of the left pontoon as an essential modification. Besides catching on stuff off-road, It's useless, heavy, gets in the way of pusher tire changes, and makes the rear of the bike buoyant in deep snow. I can't in good faith recommend the Raceway headers since the finish is so crappy....

Re: WTB Keihin 32 CVK's

I bought one on eBay from a KLR 250 and successfully use it for parts. It might need to have jet adjustments but it has the identical body as a Ural carb. It will bolt right up.

Re: Swiss Army Pistol Fits In Russian Tank Box!

I tried the rubberized foam gasket route, and it helped a little but the trick was getting around the hinges. The RTV tek should help with that problem.

My Gear-Up lives outside so solving this would be good.

Ditto here. Haven't found a way to keep rain water out of the toolbox. I tried to line it with weather stripping and keep it locked, nothing helps.

Re: Sign that Urals are getting better

I would say maybe IZH and Minsk was the motorcycle for the masses. Ural was the motorcycle for the police and "privileged" members of society :) people who could afford the upkeep of fancy things like valve trains. It might be more precise to say KMZ MV-series was the motorcycle for the military. "D...
