Re: Lead ballast that will not slide around & scratch

25 pound canvas bags of shot. Easy to handle, take up very little space and don't leak. I used two then one while learning.

Re: Funny or WTF photo thread

RE: the one about A1 Steak sauce
It originated in England; debuted as a brand product in London in 1862. They didn't care about the War of Northern Aggression. 😀

Re: How did you come to riding a Ural?

So, like another poster, I became interested in the Ural when the AMA raffled a very cool orange Gear Up off as part of a membership drive. Thought it would be a good choice to continue off-roading as I'm getting up there in years, don't pick bikes up that easily anymore, and most of my dirt-riding ...

Yes, thanks Chad for that information. I was feeling pretty stupid for not noticing it previously! Gotta say that this forum is the greatest. Someone always has the answer!

Re: Has my final drive housing blown a hole??!!

Not to worry. I just walked out to the garage and examined mine. Looks exactly the same. There's a screw of some sort in there; I don't know its function. If you're seeing oil anywhere on the FD housing, it's almost certainly coming from the vent. I just installed the bellows fix that is in a Heind...

Has my final drive housing blown a hole??!!

2019 GU ~ 4000 miles. Noticed a little oil on the FD, as well as a bit on the rear rim and peering in under the swingarm bracket, I see a penny sized hole which I never noticed before, but it is mostly hidden by the bracket. I haven't changed the FD oil recently, and checking the dipstick (yeah, scr...

Re: Choosing routes for Urals

One point worth mentioning, on 2 lane roads you're harder for overtaking traffic to pass and this can lead to dangerous tailgating. No such problems on 4 lane highways. I do prefer the back roads also but often pull off to permit passing. I usually cruise at 60 - 63 with 2019 GU.

Re: 2019/2020 Starter Problem and Wiring Harness Fix

Thanks for your input on the T-tap connector; I see it wouldn't be suitable for this kind of connection where higher voltages are involved.

Re: 2019/2020 Starter Problem and Wiring Harness Fix

I will go over it as I have the file now. A T tap has the issue of not the greatest connection. I did it on the tach hookup but that has tiny current flow. I just pulled it up. What they are doing is maintaining the yellow feed while a direct feed from the yellow wire to the blue brown into the har...

Re: Intermittent Starting Problem

This is the edited version of the service bulletin from Heindl: >>1. Remove the left side battery cover and disconnect the negative battery terminal. 2. Remove the fuse box, exposing the wiring. 3. Locate the blue/brown wire going to terminal location B10. Cut the wire on the harness side and fold i...

Re: 2019/2020 Starter Problem and Wiring Harness Fix

I just received a sheet from Heindl Engineering due to a wiring harness problem in 2019 & 2020 rigs. The .pdf file is too big to add. Here are slightly edited instructions. 1. Remove the left side battery cover and disconnect the negative battery terminal. 2. Remove the fuse box, exposing the wirin...

Intermittent Starting Problem

2019 GU with 3K miles. Just today began having problem. Key on, kill switch on, neutral, hit starter button, hear a single click and that's it. Starter doesn't turn over. Not the continuous clicking I associate with a bad solenoid or weak battery. I rock the bike a little in gear and starts immediat...
