Re: Dealer "higgly piggly" or am I just cheap?
The basic maintenance is so easy, doing it yourself will basically pay for the needed tools the first time you do it. I have all the tools and many in multiples (the Ural tool kit got replaced with combination wrenches and sockets to get on both ends of the fasteners) BMW R80GS type maint so nothin...

Re: Ural sucks except,.....
I carry bread, salami sausage and cheese for those times when I am not near a restaurant, chips as well. Issue with Ural camping and various foods is bears in AK. I can seal the sausage and cheese (not sure how much good it does but .....) Still pondering a cooler and other food. I have the stove fo...

Re: Final Drive issue
If its emulsified oil you will just re-emuslify and you don't have any effective gear lube. You then do damage. Of its emulsified you need to flush it with diesel first (fill, run up on the stand for a few minutes drain and replace) - that gets all the goo and water out. If the diesel looks bad then...

Re: Fuel Light - Worthless
I have a 2019 cT and the indicator has been bullet proof.
I have been able to rely on the light though old habit I do keep an eye on it (R80GSE has no fuel indicator, the Nighthawk S had both a level and a light as I recall)

Re: Deep Sump Question
The areas where heat is an issue won't be effected by cooler oil because there's no oil flow in those areas. The crank and case may be slightly cooler but they're not the issue. Correct me if I am wrong, but that would be due to the Ural being partly splash lubricated and not full pressure lubricat...

Re: Deep Sump Question
If you have a local CAT dealer you can probably get the analysis done in about 24 hours for around $20. I did 6 oil analysis samples on my 2003 KLR650 about 15 years or so ago. Some friends also did a couple of analysis on their KLRs on the same ride. The results were telling. I would be interested...

Re: Deep Sump Question
No matter how fancy and effective any oil cooler may be, it will do nothing to address extended high speed, high temperature running concerns. Barry: I am going to question that. While Ural is right on the lack of cooling by just adding capacity (and I did not know the other benefits) oil cooling v...

Re: Dealer "higgly piggly" or am I just cheap?
Setup is where our cT fell short. Vespa Portland quit carrying the Ural. Post my own setup work that still is not have the side car leveled, I would happily have paid another $400 for it to be right. I am going to try to link up with our Ural Repair Only operation 350 miles North of us this summer t...

Re: Ural Makes The Euro 5 Standard
Wow, the length they have to go to and the cost. Yikes. It must seem like they are trying to outrun an Avalanche at times (or all the time). Intellectually I know they have gobs on the table and still have to maintain sales and the GEO type machine for the pazaz spotlight. Not everyone is happy with...

Re: Waiting for our new CT
That is tough waiting. I have had some reloading equipment 4 months before it shipped. One barrel took 3 weeks and 11 days it was in USPS hands (normally they are outstanding). Once the motorized trimmer shipped it did it in the 3 days. Here is our cT on a mission from Costco. Ural Costco Cart.JPG I...

Re: Front row seat......
Phew, glad she is ok. That is a bad scene. I think my worst was working out front, a car drives by and the pop pop pop of indiscriminate fire (9mm at guess) I hit the driveway. Post review, I think it was (spewed?) at the other side of the street as a neighbor found a 9mm slug up on his roof (lots o...

Re: HCS Shocks
Only hitch was my own stupid mistake. Horst included 10 washers for the top of the shocks. Hadn't noticed there were 4 with small holes for the front shocks and 6 with big holes for the rest. Of course I had used 3 of the ones for the back and sidecar on the front, so had to re-do the top of the fr...

Rod, and digital manometers are SooOOoo much nicer to use, and one doesn't have to worry about them tipping over or getting sucked empty. Or a Magnhelic, those are amazing. https://www.coleparmer.com/i/dwyer-a-432-portability-kit-for-magnehelic-gauges/6846277?PubID=UX&persist=true&ip=no&gclid=Cj0KC...

Re: Deep Sump Question
Nice. The extra oil spreads the contamination out more (so yea, that the dilution thing) Synthetic is the bigger help and in your temps that is a factor. My Nighthawk S had an oil cooler on it (factory) and that is where the oil can be used to cool off. In my case with our temps it was not needed. A...
