Re: Metal shrapnel in 650 valve cover

What shape are the cylinders and pistons in? Oil is pooling at the top of cylinder as I turn the engine over, piston don't look bad, cylinders are worn. I feel your pain. Your were truly violated by the vendor. Don't mean to lecture, but I think it is false economy buying from bargain vendor where ...

Re: Metal shrapnel in 650 valve cover

These are old style heads I do not know why the guides would give. One completely destroyed the other broke. The tell tale sign would have been blow by from the breather that I suspected was due to the new unseated rings. I purchased the reconditioned engine 2 years ago off eBay from Eastern Europe ...

Metal shrapnel in 650 valve cover

I started the 650 solo today and heard a horrible sound from the right side of engine. I removed the valve cover and found ferrous metal chunks. I'm obviously not yet skilled enough to enjoy this motorcycle although that's not going to get me down. I'm about to call it's day because I'm working nigh...

Re: 650 bottom end question

I understand, I have collected 4 650 engines so an attempt should be made to balance it myself. I am reluctant to just purchase an assembly from the internet because of shipping. I worked at a UPS hub decades ago and witnessed the brutal treatment of freight. If these cranks are delicate I don't kno...

Re: 650 bottom end question

I really appreciate all the input, it gives a lot to consider. This is a backup engine obtaining the tools to attempt this, vs sending it out, vs buying a new crank assembly. Claus do you offer this service, I would prefer reworking it over replacement

Re: 650 bottom end question

Snakeoil that you for the information. I will check for run out. Could a bent crank cause the timing to be off causing backfiring?

650 bottom end question

I have a 650 motor that had been sitting for years. P.O told me it began backfiring so it was parked and he didn't troubleshoot the problem but suspected the crank may have moved. When I got it the cylinders didn't want to come loose due to rust, one head had a stuck valve that I was able to free. T...

Re: 1960s style Cafe Racer!

I think it weighs under 250lbs, hopefully soon I will get around to dropping t140 internals and top end into the cases. A featherbed or A10 frame maybe in the future
