Never had an engine failure because of oil. I follow the manufacturer's guidelines.

Run the used oil in the snowblower over the winter then put back in the Ural, don't want to put stale dino oil in anything.

I wonder why Ural U.S. manual specifies oil change interval 2500km while European manual says oil change interval 5000km. Difference in fuel or climate?

I used to change motor oil every 5000km, gearbox oil every 15000km and FD oil every year. Everything worked fine even when I like offroad rides.
However I got lazy at writing down odometer status at service lately, so I switched to change motor oil every year regardless of kilometers. So the oil interval is now 4000-7000 depending on how great the year was. Doing so for 3 years and the engine still works great.
Doing the same with another motorbike and older car (not used everyday, odometer died few years ago) and works good as well.
By my deeds I honor him, flat twin.

Stick with the factory stuff.

I change the oil every 6 months and hope to do so tomorrow on the Ural. Then next June. All the other fluids as well.

Maybe they don't trust U.S. owners to follow the interval, so they build in some tolerances

I would change it in the evening...That way the fresh oil will be in the engine longer, unless you ride at night of course, in which case I would change it about 9.30am....

Frequent routine maintenance = more beer drinking opportunities.
If "the book" says 2,500km that's what I do.
People think nothing of $200 farkles yet try and save $6 by not changing the oil?

Ural's age in dog years, so 2500km would be the same as 17500km on a normal bike, or about 10,850 miles which is pretty good.
past afflictions include TR motocars and bikes, R60/2 & a R65, MGs, and a Citroen.

If you are using SueprTech from WalMart, then change it every 1000 miles. It only costs $12 a jug of 5 quarts. That's a lot of oil for very little cash. So go ahead and change it.
Now if you use some synthetic supermatic hypergelatic ultramagnetic oil, then you can wait until you get back home. These types of oil cost a lot more than Wally world cheap oil.

I am also very anal about my bikes and on the Ural I do all the fluids every 5000km  I think even these things can go 3000 miles between changes.

This is my third Ural and I have never had a oil related failure. Now where is that fingers crossed smilie

I did do all fluids at 500km, 1000km and then at 5000km. It got to the point of no swaff what so ever on the trans and final drive so I may up the mileage on those. Engine oil looks like new at 5000km now. :foilhead:
