Valve adjuster and locknut

Postby Mark_MB750M » Thu Oct 12, 2017 9:48 am

Hello,

750CC Tourist issue here:

I'm adjusting the valves prior to the FART, and discovered that on the left side intake valve, I can adjust the clearance, but when I sung up the locknut it doesn't tighten fast against the rocker arm. IT just keeps turning, and as a consequence turns the adjuster outwards and opens up the clearance.
That adjuster bolt is relatively new, and threads in and out of the rocker arm, so I'm assuming the nut is stripped somehow. Does this sound correct, and if not, what else could it be?

If any can tell me what nut fits that valve adjuster, I'd appreciate it. I'm off to O-Reilly and some other errands so will check while I'm there.

Thanks!

Mark

got to be the threads, i have seen what looks like good threads that when tightened up they pop over the next thread causing a stripped thread situation.might just be bad threading on both parts. anyway no cure from me sorry, good luck! :?

If it's pulling the adjuster out, means thread is stripped in the rocker arm. :(

Which is a real PITA.

Or if you're lucky, it's the inside hidden part of the adjuster screw thread that is knacked.

I guess I was lucky. I got a new nut (M8 1.0 Fine thread) and tried that, but it did the same thing with the adjuster. I screwed out the old adjuster and found some of the threads looked buggered (flat and showing bright metal). I replaced it with my spare adjuster and the new nut, and that seemed to fix it. Got the clearances set and went for a little spin.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
