Left Turn signal and brake light

Postby ryder » Mon Apr 30, 2012 11:54 am

My left signal light on the front started to hyper flash. I then noticed the rear left signal stopped working as well as the brake light. The right turn signal light operates properly. Any ideas?

Haven't had the hyper flash issue on a bike but have on cars. It was usually if not always one of the turn bulbs on the affected side was burned out. That's where I would start by checking the bulb and cleaning up the socket and connections.

Ok update! I checked the bulbs and found the left rear signal light ground came off. I fixed it and signal lights now working properly, however the brake lights still are not. I checked the rear tail light and I see that there are 2 bulbs, upper and smaller lower. They are both on all the time. I suspect that only one should be on until you depress the brake. Any ideas?

Adjust your brake light switch till the brake light goes out with the brake pedal up.

I don't know what switch you have but basically turn it in or out until the light goes out.

I think I figured out where the brake light switch is over the rear brake pedal, however there must be another one for the front brake leaver. The rear one dosent seem to make a difference when i lift the plunger up. I am just not sure how to find where the front one is. Any ideas?

Front brake light switch is connected to the brake lever. Stand in front of the bike and look at the brake lever. Where the lever meets the hand grip, you should see a couple of wires coming out. Also, you can squeeze the front brake lever and listen carefully and you should hear the switch clicking.

Ok I got it fixed. Thanks for the help gflapg and rivers. Turned out the rear switch was slightly corroded. Meanwhile I found and excellent site for brake lights and troubleshooting. You guys probably are familiar with it, but just in case.

By the way what are the odds of having 2 separate light issues totally unrelated happening at exactly the same time. Makes me crazy.

I'm glad that you fixed your problems. The brake light probably was screwed up before the signal light problem. It's just that you didn't notice anything wrong till the signal lights started flashing real fast.
