Nice bike, unusual in the States. I'd snag that if I was in the market.

Only italian part on it will be the Veglia rev counter. There are quite a few of them in the USA and Canada and I know of 7 in the UK that were registered in 1980 and 1981, just before our law changed to outlaw Right hand sidecars fitted to bikes registered after July 81. I have one.
Nevals shipped most of their stock to Canada and some made it over the border. Based on the MT10-36 with an MB650 drive and sidecar chassis. The tub is a civvy one.
Neval bikes are usually easy to recognise due to the marked MPH speedometer with a prominent 55MPH position marked in red . Some have the Italian tachometers, some do not.
Easy to get parts for. MT16 for the sidecar and drive , MT10-36 for the bike but note that as the drive was military based, it does not support a sidecar brake.

Nice find

Funny that someone bothered with new sidecar legislation. Were right-hand sidecars really such a scourge on the roads in the UK in the early 80's? LOL.

The government of the day decided that R/H sidecars were a danger ( on what evidence, I don't know) on our roads so, whilst they allowed vehicles registered up to midnight on the 31/7/81 , our National construction and Use regulation 93 prohibits the installation and use of a R/H chair on a vehicle registered after that date. The operative word is ' Registered'. And is not country specific so an overseas vehicle with the paperwork proving registration before that date is allowed.

I ride both sides and do not have any problems. Passengers will usually ride ok in a L/H chair but only once in a R/H one. Especially on narrow rural roads , I am told the experience can be a little harrowing.

Pretty cool piece of history. The speedometer in MPH was the first thing that caught my eye and the Federal sticker.
I liked these bikes 30+ years ago but they were always a mystery. Then kinda disappeared.
Eventually when I got interested in Urals I'm sure it was a deja-vu moment from Nevel's.

All MT11 and MT16 models came out of the factory fitted with a sidecar brake. They were the first Dnepr models to to so.

The MT10-36 and prior models do not have any facility on the bike frame to fit a rear brake pedal and linkage suitable for a sidecar brake. Previous to the MT16 models, there is no brake shoe assembly built into the sidecar wheel hub.]

All the early drive system parts will interchange with the later ones, apart from the lever assembly on the bike.

The Neval MPH speedo is simply a Russian one with an overlay on the face fitted by Them. The speedo reads in MPH but the odometer is still in KPH.
If you want an MPH speedo, fit a Smiths copy one from a Royal Enfield, almost a straight swop apart from a very slight reduction in diameter. Any electronic tacho of a suitable size will fit if you move the switch to the centre of the console and cut a hole to fit the Tacho where the switch originally was. Run the signal feed from the input side connection on the coil. The Veglia one from a Moto Guzzi was used by Nevals as it also suits the wasted spark system on the Dnepr.

Yup. The gearing is correct ( 2-1) and the fitting for the speedo cable is the same . Might be a couple of millimetres smaller in diameter but will centre up ok. Sometimes the holding clamp is a little short and you have to make a new one out of sheet steel, then use a different speedo lamp holder but otherwise it will be ok. Saves having to do calculations everytime you pass a speed limit sign. Might take you an hour to fit, maximum
