Mar. 19th InaugURAL St. Patrikov's Ride AKA The Leprachaun Hunt

Postby BinDerSmokDat » Fri Feb 19, 2016 9:47 am

Did you know that St. Patricks Day is widely celebrated in Russia?
True story.

Instead of snakes he drove all of the Moscow Water Dogs out of Russia.
They drink green vodka instead of green beer.

To celebrate the Russian's embracing an Irish holiday there will be the InaugURAL St. Patrikov's Ride AKA The Leprachaun Hunt!

There will be some sort of St. Patrikov's Day treats, "prizes" scrounged from the prize pile and whatever else I find.

Where
Wharton State Forest

When
03/19/16

10:00am Ride starts at Atsion Ranger Station, 713-723 U.S. 206, Shamong, NJ 08088
The goal is to get back to the Rangers Station by sundown. We almost always make it, with time to spare.

What
A day ride through Wharton State Park.
Lunch is the sandwich, snacks and drinks you bring with you on the trail.
Also Mighty Joes (see below) has gas and a deli, with good sandwiches, you can grab something there before you meet at the Rangers Station.
Bring food! It can get chilly at times and a good meal will help you stay warm.

Riding
All vehicles must be street legal. If your brother in-law wants to tag along on a dual sport bike that's OK; he cannot bring his quad.
Our main activity is trail riding. This is great Uraling territory, flat and sandy, no rocks and some water crossings.
If you get stuck there will be enough of us around to push/pull you out.
1wd or 2wd will be fine and a willingness to push a stuck bike would be nice.
Knobby or 307 pusher helps, but not required. We've had a Retro with a street tire do the ride before.

A Ural/Dnepr is preferred but we've had two wheelers along before.

This is a great opportunity for newer owners to get their feet wet (pun intended) off-roading. This area is very Ural friendly.Trails are just wide enough to make it seem adventurous. The sand has just enough slip to make it fun and enough traction to get going (most of the time).
There's nothing too steep or scary off camber. If that sounds boring just pick up the speed a bit or skip the chicken bypasses and try to navigate a deep hole.

This is a rain, snow or shine ride, so dress appropriately.
Wear layers, including a windproof layer.
Nylon windbreakers and jogging pants in your layers will keep you warmer than thicker gear as they stop the wind.
Monkeys should dress for snowmobiling, they are less active than riders and they can get cold in that metal tub.
Warm gloves, wool socks and water proof boots go a long way to keeping riders and monkeys warm.
Spare layers, socks and gloves are a good idea if it is wet/extra cold.

I've been busy with work so I've not been posting much.
Can't wait to get some riding in on the new clutch.
