I would vote yes for anything more east in OR, like around Burns, Seneca, and so on. If this Paisley place is as far east it will happen, then I'm for it. It is still a long way from east Idaho. JMO.

Howdy All,

I am up for attending where ever it is but would like to see some of the dryer parts of Oregon.

Dave.....my idea for gathering at summer lake hot springs (near Paisley) will bring us to the dry high desert in central Oregon
avg precip May-June...1.04".....avg precip days...5....avg high temp 75 F

The camp area at the hot springs is a large field. Lot's of room for all sorts of vehicles. No need to reserve spaces....unless you want a cabin... or RV hookup.

If folks like the idea of this place, I'd suggest pulling up the link and checking it out.

Hi Dave,

Scroll on up to my second post on this topic....the link to the hot springs is in it. I think you'll like the place. I try to make it there at least once a year.

I looked at link & place, it seems fine to me. I vote "Yes" on Paisley - well, if there is a vote happening....

Howdy Chuck,

I called the Summer Lake folks, they have RV spots large enough for my rig, so that's a go for me. I looked at the area using Googal Earth, can you give us some kind of idea what the riding is like, looks like dry dessert to the east and light forest cover to the west, are there any interesting things to see or places to visit that you can share with us?

Howdy Chuck,

I almost forgot, what dates do you have in mind, if this is going to happen wherever it happens we need dates to make reservations and plan for folks to take days off if need be.

Chuck, I know you're not the official rally planner so no pressure. I like the idea of a SOUR and the prospective location looks nicely doable as an option at least for me. BUT can you offer an approx time frame? Final location and duration can be hammered out amongst us later but a rough target starting date/season would be helpful. I'm retired so time off isn't an issue but do have other time issues to deal with. So...whatcha loosely got in mind for when?
Thanks.

Well now....looks like Summer lake hot springs might just be the place. In keeping with the dates from last years SOUR (or near those dates) I was thinking May 30 to June 2. We could fudge a bit if needed, but since we're planning so early I would hope all who can make it, could do these dates. As per your request Dave I'm posting some shots of the area so one can get an idea of the place and the area around it. There are lots of geological marvels in the area. Fort Rock.....formed by volcanic forces. Crack in the ground....formed by the east-west stretching of landscape. Hole in the ground....looks like a meteor strike, but is an explosion maar. Starting in Paisley and following along Winter ridge is a section of the OBDR....That would make for a nice days ride. Another ride could be up to Fort rock/crack in the earth/Hole in the ground "loop". And another could be the start of the OBDR at Goose Lake.....ride the hills above Lakeview.....drop back into the town and back up the highway to the hot springs.

Here's some shots of the area....as I find more, I'll post them
