Spring TURD 2014 - New Mexico Invasion

Postby kentsilk » Sat Dec 07, 2013 11:40 am

Fellow Riders,

It is early though the planning for Spring TURD 2014 has started. With Input and assistance from Lee (Swampfox), George, Charlie, James and myself, we have a plan in place for the Spring TURD Event. The Event will be in Timberon, NM. May 31st through June 8th. The main event is for the Thursday – Sunday June 5-8 2014. We will be working with George Corder to help scope out rides for the main events. The early week is just open riding and exploring for those that want to make this trip their summer time vacation. Ana and I along with Lee and Jenny are planning to spend the week. For me this is the first trip to New Mexico just for fun and site seeing. There will be plenty of off ride time for those that just want to adventure ride and explore. For those that want to see historical place and enjoy a less adventurous ride there is more than enough to do. Spend a few minute on Google and you will be excited to ride this area.

Main Event / Ralley Central
Condo: Riverside Condo's See Posting by Swampfox on page 2 for contact information

RV's: Circle Cross Camp Ground:
1282 Sacramento River Rd
Timberon, NM

Most liking we plan a off road ride for the group on Friday June 6th and a site seeing ride and lunch on Saturday June 7th. It would be nice to maybe have a group dinner on the Saturday night at the camp site. We are looking for the groups input and suggestions. Depending on the group and who wants to come for the whole week too we can look at excursions to area points of interest too.

Thanks for the information Kent.

I was just reading the reviews on the place and most were good, but one gives me pause. It says the owner isn't ATV friendly. Funny, being that the mini-pic on google shows happy people on ATV's.. Maybe he can find a soft spot for Urals.

I'll be keeping my eye on this as it evolves. Only a 4 hour trip for me.

Thanks.

Since there is no live link, I searched and found various listings for this campground which all indicate 'No Tents'.

Is this a possible error, or oversight?

If not, it seems to exclude riders who 'ride in'...

Thats a shame.

Oliver Lee Memorial State Park is tepee friendly and just around the corner, if the RV park isn't

Maybe call your Ural an RV with "soft side accommodations"?

YMMV

Folks I so enjoy the comments. The Compact RV with a slide-out is perfect.

Team we will look very close at the accommidations and make sure that we have everyone covered some how. Like you mentioned and we say the ATV's in the pictures and this area is great for off ride activists.

I read that there where camp site, cabins and RV sites along with a community area so we felt that this would be a good gathering site. along with the many other camp grounds in the area and within 30 miles too. As we find out and get more details we'll keep everyone updated.

The main reason for the early posting is so people could mark their calendars and hopefully set their summer schedules so to be able to join us. It is my hope that as people get to know one another that we'll be able to do more events throughout the year. things like one day rides, ride in for lunchs and weekend trips. Gathering with like minded people build friendships that last a life time.

Count me in. I live in El Paso which is approximately 140 miles from Timberon. The whole area is beautiful. Great riding on and off road.

I'm in - great choice for an area - would like some place that had tent camping - but I'm flexible.

I'm in! I am a displaced Texan, just up the road a piece north of Ruidoso. I'll start keeping my eyes open for a tent camping area. Alamogordo, although close, can be pretty warm in May. I'll see if I can find something in Timberon or Cloudcroft. Wadeinater, this sounds like a good excuse for you to come up and scout with me. I'll try not to break down this time.

Oliver Lee park is about 60 miles by (twisty-uphill) road from Timberon - so a long corner

Hi Ron,

Sounds like a plan. We'll have to recon the area.
