I was in Moab in September and boondocked just 1 mile north of Archview off of Willow Springs Rd. Nice and quiet, but it can be a gamble finding a decent spot, as it is known to draw quite a crowd at times...

Howdy sasha_j.

Cool, we can have our own camp, call it the "west side ghetto" Seriously if a few of us boondock together we could have a good time. :deal:

I am not a fan of the Willow Springs road for boondocking....our rig is too big for that area, the road gets rough and prime spots are not easy to get. Although it's a great Ural trip to see dinosaur tracks and take the back way into Arches NP.

Howdy sasha_j,

I am in the same boat, big rig, bad roads, very limited decent spots, not a good combination. Looking at your photo a bit closer I don't know if that is the spot, I am going to take a look in google earth and see if I can get a better look of the area I am talking about. Stay tuned.

Howdy sasha_j,

In this photo you can see Archway camp ground on the EAST side of the hwy, the area I am talking about boondocking in is directly across form the camp ground on the WEST side of the hwy. There's NOTHING there, just a huge area of fairly flat ground.

I am not seeing anything directly across from the campground entrance on the west side of the highway....looks unavailable best I can tell...

I think it's a bit north as shown in my other pic

What about our friend "Mud"? How does that area look if it (more likely than not) rains?

YMMV

Howdy Marv,

In the years I have ridden through and parked in this area I have seen some DEEP ruts in the low areas. If a person picks a place with the thought of rain in mind I don't think it would be a problem. That said depending on how hard and for how long it rained it could be a real mofker. I am going to pick a high dry spot and take my chances as I don't think it's going to be a problem.

Mud can be an issue during wet periods for sure......we have had good weather karma in Moab area during spring and fall.....hopefully that will continue.
