This was a 3 fold expedition; furniture to my bestie's daughter, Ural in the snow and snowboarding.

Loaded and ready to go;

And on the 2nd day of the trip, the Ural came out to play. Temps in the 30s. Ran like a champ! ;

Gatlinburg is obviously a tourist town, with many tourist places. Howards is one of the originals, located across from the aerial tram. The food was great and the service was friendly. They even let us keep the Ural parked out front while we walked around town for a bit. When we came back, the greeter told us the Ural was it's own tourist attraction with major UDF. Come to think of it, there was UDF when we got there and as we were getting ready to leave!!! Eat at Howards if you stop in Gatlinburg!! We did 3 times!

While we warmed up in Howards, the Ural stood snow watch. Just after our food served, I saw snow flurries (first time since 1989 seeing falling snow). We dashed for the door, but by the time we got there the flurries had stopped...

We walked around town, seeing the sights. At one point snow began to fall, but soon changed to rain. We stopped by the Ole Smokey Distillery for some free samples of "shine". Of course while we were sampling inside, some serious snow flurries fell!! They were gone before we could get back outside. With darkness looming and the temp dropping into the 30s/20s we decided to get out of dodge;

The next day was a tough decision, ride the Ural in search of snow or snowboarding. With the high temp hovering in the low 20s, we decided to go snowboarding and take the truck. Snow fall was the order of the day!!

The flurries were decent on our journey to town, but once at Ober Ski the snow was getting serious;

Though the Ural never saw more than snow flurries, we had fun. We shall return!! Perhaps in time, more permanently. :cheers:

That is always great Ural country. Glad you had fun and love the pictures. I haven't been to the Smokies for 4 or 5 years. It is beautiful summer or winter. I don't like crowds, so I tend to go to the Townsend end of the park to camp. It is really hard to go wrong in the Smokies or Blue Ridge Parkway.
I may not be good, but I'm slow.

Looks like a great time. Went to TN last week for the first time. It was cold, but no snow when we were there. Did not make it all the way to G'burg but drove thru Pigeon Forge. Never expected that madness in the the Smokies.

Nice country, nice folks, very retirement friendly tax structure.

Is that a replica vintage HD windshied on that bike? Looks like it belongs on it.

it's like a special kind of redneck madness, isn't it?

Nice pictures! Long time no snow, huh? Did you make a snowman? Snowball fight? :boogie:

I took the family there when my kids were around 8,& 10. All the Floridians were playing in the Snow up in the mountains just before Gatlinburg as you come in from N.C. We bought inflatable tubes and rode down the closed fire roads. Saw a couple of shows in Gatlinburg and stayed at a cabin rental. Great memories. Love that area of western N.C. and Tenn. on the N.C. Side is Maggie Valley. Home of,"Wheels through time". Wonderful motorcycle mueseum. Highly reccommend seeing it. A few years ago while at the FART rally in Asheville a few of us went to the mueseum. We were quite the attraction ourselves outside the mueseum with lots of UDF. I could have spent all day at that mueseum as there is so much to take in. Maggie Valley has become a motorcycle destination. It has all the ingredients to have a rally there. The wurrounding area is prime motorcycling roads with the Blue Ridge Parkway right at its door step. Thanks for the ride report. Thanks for sharing...

The windshield is a slip stream I believe. Got it from Holowpaw, then had my local canvas shop make the canvas cover.

Didn't make a snow man, but we did get in a snow ball fight. Tammy won! LOL

We stayed in Maryville and had to drive through Townsend each day. Real nice area (even looked up some real estate when we got back).

Last time I was in Gatlinburg was early 80s as a kid. We shall return!!

Looks like an awesome time. Love that area and Maryville's proximity to the Smokies. Always liked sneaking in thru Townsend over fighting Gatlinburg traffic. Great pics. Thanks

Good feedback on Maryville. We've been looking at real estate there as well.
Thanks

Maryville is rolling hills. Didn't see much of the town, but looked nice enough. I really liked Townsend and Wears Valley. Looked like a lot of roads to explore...
