Chile charges a 'reciprocity fee' for North Americans arriving by air.

If you cross by overland they do not charge the $100 fee.

I am looking to go that way but not this year. Picking up my rig in San Diego early in August and heading for Newfoundland via Labrador. Will be looking for somewhere to park my rig towards the middle or end of September then back to NZ for serious planning. Have ridden in a bit of Argentina and Chile with my bike before putting a chair on it. Happy planning

Roads are crap , rough ride on a Ural with potholes . Small roads too and such for big Ural . No rolling it into the hotel lobby. But, the people are great and will friggin love the bike !!! Do it and write a report !! Oh, I my local dealer was going to stockpile all big parts for me and I could call for shipment anywhere pretty much . I took a small cheap bike instead . Ural would be much bigger adventure !

Hey Subsnowden -

In 2013, my wife and I rode 20,000 miles through South America. We shipped our rig from Texas to Santiago, Chile - rode South to Ushuaia, then back North through Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and ended in Colombia. We learned A LOT as we went along and plan to head back there after we hit up some other places around the world first. It's an amazing place.

If you have anything specifically that I can speak into, I'd love to help out.
