While in MX on pavement nearing villages, small towns watch for signs that read "TOPES" aka sleeping policemen. They're the grandaddy/super hero of speed bumps. Hit'em too fast and they'll launch a two wheeler. Sticking the landing with a Ural could get exciting.

Mr Wazzock, hear! hear!, cant wait to hear more from Fran and Yvonne. This is the best armchair adventure ever, because it involves a late model Ural. They have already been around the USA, now heading for Mexico and beyond. Best part they are safe, and the Soviet Steed is seeming to preform great.

Joe... :D this brings back memories of our BMW Oklahoma group ride to MX back in the early '80s. We were visiting/touring some pyramids. Riding through a small town, I saw the sign "TOPES" & a symbol, & guessed it as a speed bump sign. So I chased the rider in front of me to warn him, he thought I was trying to race him...so he sped up  & launch himself when he hit it. No drama, he was able to control the bike. When we stopped he screamed "WTF was that" I explained the reason I was chasing him  We all had a great time through the gulf coast of MX then through the center via Mexico City headed north. :boogie:

Hey there youngin's! Looks like you finally got the site all up and going. It looks great! Tell Y she's done a great job with the write-ups and pics. I hope you are finally thawing out in Mexico. Cold weather just seems to follow you.

Here are some random photos. Now we have a little more time I will try to post more of them in the future. We crossed the border on Friday and are now relaxing in Chihuahua for a few days before we head to the Copper Canyon.

cant wait for the Mexico pictures, should be interesting. anyway can you from time to time give us gear heads updates on how the Ural is running. Maybe any issues even small ones, oil consumption, tire wear/replacement , so many questions i could ask. Where and how are you doing basic maintence in Mexico and beyond. Think the folks here on the forum would find this input very interesting also, just a suggestion, as the pictures and commentary you provide is absolutely wonderful.

I am problems uploading photos it does about 1 in 3, any ideas?
Maintenance, fluids, air, bulbs and general eye ball daily. Listen all the time if the motor sounds happy I'm happy. Rear tire about 6500k only, mileage approx 45 kpm. Front tire 13000k, side car tire 20,000k. Pressures 32f 36r 32car. Replaced FD at 20,000k it had more life but heading south we erred on the side of caution. Steering damper replaced at 15000k slight leak under warranty. Sidecar rim was warrantied at 20,000k it had a tiny stress or fatigue crack. Rear brakes were set up wrong at delivery and fixed under warranty at 15000k it was on 3rd set of shoes. No problems since. replaced front pads at 15000k about 50% wear.
Drive slow, 55 is close to max, and steady with low daily totals. 150 to 200 miles daily is the most we do and I think Pferdinand is a happy bike. A slow and cautious running in is paying off. Between me Yvonne and the gear the load is probably 400 to 450lbs. Any questions feel free.

Your picture uploads probably happen because the size of the file is too big. There are a number of ways to get around it. I'll email you a couple ways around this on this site.
