Don't like riding in the rain?

Postby harryball » Tue Nov 14, 2017 3:29 pm

Try this! From our 2016 trip, we landed smack dab in the middle of Tropical Storm Julia as it worked its way up the coast on 9/13. I had water in everything, but the rigs made it cranking out another 1500+ miles on this trip alone.

---
2008 - Tourist - "Ursula" / 30mpg / 32k as of 9/2017
2010 - Patrol - "The Rattler" / 32 mpg / 53k as of 9/2017
K28 tires on both rigs, pusher gets about 6000 miles give or take.

My main issue with riding in the rain is keeping the visor clean. I now carry a bottle of water around. Today I’ve had to use it twice because of dirty spray chucked up by trucks. Also I wear spectacles so misting up is a problem. The visor has a pinlock on the inside but that was misting a bit at the bottom too - does that mean I’ll have to put the spare on?

On examination (just now) it wasn’t sealing properly so hopefully not.

If you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride.

Totally agree. Don't mind a soaking when its 70+ degrees. Been soaked when it was mid 30's, was miserable 3 hour ride.

Uralistas obviously live in many climates, but i have lived in the south west USA all my life and i think only a true south westerner would understand the pure riding pleasure of riding in a July/August rain, when the temperature is 108 deg, just the smell of wet desert is amazing.

I use Rain-X on windshield and helmet visor plastic. It works great to get rid of water without having windshield wipers. It works sort of OK on helmet visor. I also have a little "finger windshield wiper" to help with the helmet visor.

Naysayers say Rain-X will turn plastic yellow. I have been using Rain-X for over 20 years, and still have yet to see anything turn yellow. You don't have to put it on every day or month or whatever. It lasts quite a long time. It also makes easy to keep snow (yeah, snow!) off the windshield. Put some on headlight glass for the same effects.

YMMV
