Mostly it depends on the former owner and his riding style...
I had to relive last year a 2007 Tourist with only 7500km...
The first name I gave it says it all:
"Banana Coco Split"
The Canadian miner engineer (¿?) wears now 3,5kg Titanium in skull and shoulder.
The banana muffler was swapped to the right side when the new owner had to change the whole clutch and renamed the rig to "El Cuervo / The Craw"
If the owner is like the friendly miner you might invite him for a pint and share a few funny stories, but not the ride.
If the rider is decent and knows what he does, plus is a person who's word is believable, than that is the one to go.
Or in my sister's words:

8 weeks 12.000km Oregon - Alaska - Oregon, Engine broke free at 21.000km now in CR 36.000km and counting.
With a DIY foam air filter the rig runs well even in tropical rain. The air box looks then like an aquarium.
Final drives: 1. at 5000km, 2. at 34.000km(+friction plates)
