Dnepr Knee Pads

I pulled them off to paint the tank.

WTF is the trick to getting them back on? Heat in boiling water? Soapy water?

Mine are probably original 1963 vintage; somewhat hard with minor stress/age cracking. I have one of those tools.

Just the opposite problem with the knee-pads on my 6gal BMW tank; they're glued on... unless they've fallen off.
