Ural Tool Kit

Postby mouka » Thu Jan 07, 2016 7:23 am

I have watched a few videos of various Ural motorcycles, and I have noticed that they all came with a tool kit. Unfortunately mine does not have one. It has a hand pump but no tool kit whatsoever.
What tools are in the tool kit, and can I easily find those tools from hardware or auto part stores?

Thanks

You can easily build a tool kit with tools from Harbor Freight or other local hardware store. The major items are:
Screw drivers: phillips & flat
Combination Wrenches: 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 17mm, 19mm
Large crescent wrench
Pliers: Needle nose & standard
If you want a socket set, 3/8" drive metric (Harbor Freight has them for cheap)
Tire irons if you want (again, found at HF)

The only specialty tool that I can think of is the pin wrench used to remove the wheel bearing retaining nut.

One thing to check on Harbor Freight socket sets is make sure they include the sizes you need. I bought one about a year ago and it didn't have a 12 mm. Fortunately, I have other 12mm sockets but it seems silly to me that they don't include that size.

Is this the wrench that has two "teeth" sticking out of its side? And if yes, can I find it somewhere?

Yes it is.

One other special tool you will need is the spanner used to tighten the exhaust coupling nuts and the wheel bearing lock nuts.

Here's an adjustable pin wrench at Harbor Freight:

Here's a link to a spanner that should work for adjusting the shocks, tightening the muffler coupling nut, and also the wheel bearing lock nuts:

The Harbor Freight link is extremely useful. That's exactly what I like: Cheap and versatile tools.
As for the spanner, I have them for my Honda motorcycles, so I should be set for the specialty tools. The other stuff, I had a ton of lying around.
Thanks for the tips guys. You rock!

99.9% metric. The two allen bolts that hold the rear brake pads on are not metric.

I have the full tool kit, but made my own carry-case out of oil-cloth or whatever it is called. It was an outdoor table cloth with like shiny vinyl/plastic on one side and heavy weave cotton or something on the other side. I gout it at a 2nd hand store for $1, since it is a close match to "sage green".

I also have a copy of the owners manual in a 3-ring binder for daily use in the trunk. I wanted to keep the original one clean and nice shape. I did take the electrical diagram to the office and printed all of it in color full size. I think it was 8 letter pages, then taped them all together where they fit. This is also in the binder.

It just takes time to measure everything and sew the pockets, but easy to do even for a Ural owner.

YMMV
