Tried that, but since it was registered in NV for 2 years it needs to be re-imported into California. Stupid and a PIA, but it is what it is...

If it does not meet the mileage requirements do not under any circumstances attempt registration. Attempting registration with the odometer reading will create a flag in the DMV system and the bike will be blackballed. If you can find the emmissions sticker that confirms it meets standards you are golden, with out that sticker the odometer needs to read over 7500 miles.

Think the thing to do unfortunality is verify the Calif 7500 mile rule is still in effect and then alter the ODO,sounds terrible and is not legal , but what can you do. There isn't anyway the inspector at the DMV will know, besides he/she probably wont suspect or even care.Irony here is a decent regular American has to worry about little rules ,and the Washington people get away with terrible things.

... There isn't anyway the inspector at the DMV will know,

unless, as mentioned by cpres... he's already attempted to register the bike.

There isn't anyway the inspector at the DMV will know,

And therein lies the crux of the biscuit ... some will, some won't... the odds be 50-50. In our little county-seat burg, the DMV folks are anal about crossing their eyes and dotting their tees; twenty miles south, in a more agricultural-based community, it's totally laissez-faire. But once you're in the computer. . ..

The 7500 mile "rule" is still in effect > https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy ... cts/ffvr29

But it only applies to "used vehicles".

edit, so, Sr. Cheese.... what's the odometer reading?

El queso , so with the contact you had with the Calif DMV you didn't get the Ural inspected or in anyway get documentation into their computer on the mileage i hope, so like LMO, said your good to go on resetting the speedo if your so inclined. makes me wonder what would be the Calif situation if you had a vehicle that had to have the speedo replaced ,due to a accident or something. :?

lived for 20 years in La Mirada Calif but all the bikes i had were Calif registered. only bike i ever had to have inspected was a Harley because the frame/engine # has to match. never had a issue even bought a bike with a salvage title no issue, but this was 20 years ago, until i got smart and moved to Nevada. Never had to deal with Gov. Moonbeam and his rigime.

Well, that's a good question Flash ... so, I looked it up. :?

See SEction 5.050; Replacement of Conversion of an Odometer

5.050
Replacement or Conversion of an Odometer (CVC 28053)
An odometer may be serviced, repaired, or replaced, but must reflect the same mileage after the service, repair, or replacement as it did prior.
However, if the odometer is incapable of registering the same mileage, the odometer must be adjusted to zero miles, and a notice in writing
must be attached to the left door frame of the vehicle by the person performing the service, repair, or replacement.

The notice must specify the mileage prior to the service and the date on which the service was completed. The odometer disclosure for a vehicle
that has had its odometer replaced or converted from kilometers to miles cannot reflect the “actual mileage” unless a Statement of Facts (REG 256) form from the party who replaced/converted the odometer with all of the following information is submitted with the application.

• The date the odometer was replaced.
• The kilometer reading at the time of replacement (old reading).
• The mileage reading at the time of replacement (new reading).
• The conversion ratio used to change kilometers into miles. The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) has established the kilometer conversion to miles ratio at 62 percent. For example, to convert 10,000 kilometers to miles, bmultiply the kilometers by 62 percent (.62) = 6,200 actual miles.

Important : The odometer mileage must be shown as “Not Actual Mileage” if a REG 256 is not or cannot be provided.

There must be a loophole here, somewhere.. ...

Lmo,yeah there it is in the first line i think, if the drill winding works get it to about 7500 miles and your good to go. Don't know why, but unless something stands out that's wrong why would the inspector even suspect that the odo was tampered with? Problem solved, damn were good :boogie:

Seeing how the odometer is in km's does that mean he would have to wind the odometer to 12070 kms?

El queso , how many km on the bike? Darrell said the conversion needs to be at least 12070km to equal the required 7500mile rule.

Looks like that's covered here...

I concur..... I live in CA and bought an out-of-State bike that had originally been registered in CA, and the DMV did’t even want to look at it, as they already had the VIN number in their DMV Records.
