Just passin' the tried and proven methods. OK truth be told, I was taught to use a 2x4 and a brick but I thought there was room for improvement :D

Getting the bike on the centerstand is difficult enough when the rear is flat, the extra 1 1/2" makes it nearly impossible. In addition the first piece of 2x4, I also carry two more pieces screwed together to make it 3" thick. I first roll the back tire on to the single 2x4 and then the double. Now that the back of the bike is raised, I place the single 2x4 under the inside leg of centerstand and roll the bike back. The additional 1 1/2" mechanical advantage means it pops right on to the centerstand without any effort.

To space save, these pieces need only be 4"-6" long. But I prefer the doubled piece to be longer and can then be used as a sturdy prop to hold the front wheel high off the ground when the centerstand is deployed as described and the rig is sitting on the two rear wheels.

That's the way I've been doing it for years. I call my 2x4 my "Ural Jack"

center stand mods?

Postby berger » Sun Aug 26, 2012 9:14 pm

I have never had an issue lifting the bike onto the centre stand, even loaded. I do keep some plywood with me to avoid sinking....just have to remember to pull it out!

Another advantage to the inside 2 into 1 is that the centre stand is a breeze to get too.

Yep that 2 into 1 does really helps. On my bikes without the 2 into 1 I welded a tang on the kickstant that comes around the muffler for easy access. You can see it in the attached photo if you look close just below the passenger foot peg.

Old thread, but I had a question. How can you change the sidecar tire with the 2x4 method?
