Engine Too Hot

Post by VWNate1 » Fri Apr 20, 2018 10:20 pm

Time to buy a deeper sump and oil intake extension .

That cooled my blistering hot 1994 650 down right away .

Did you hone the cylinders and replace rings while you were in there?

Harbor Freight had the honers right above the spring tool.

That's a sure sign of a timing, or intake issue.

No, I was thinking of just reinstalling them and seeing what kind of compression I get.

My right intake valve leaked. So I have them being lapped by a buddy that does them regularly.

After a recent crankcase over-pressurization on my cT that may or may not have contributed to a leaking pushrod tube lower end, I'm wondering: can I effectively seal the lower ends of the pushrod tubes with something like room-temperature-vulcanizing rubber or high-temp gasket maker? I believe that the tubes originally came shellacked in place, but I've had mine apart, sandblasted 'em, and painted 'em, so the sealing dynamics may be different now.

What does the group feel would make a good sealant?

I vote for red high temp RTV sealant. I used it for a different application on a motorcycle, where its sealing (that is to say, adhering) and heat-resistant properties were also necessary. I've been nothing but impressed with the durability of the product.

Hey TCF

I'm with everyone else :)

and here is what I recommend

https://www.permatex.com/products/gaske ... t-maker-4/
or
https://www.permatex.com/products/gaske ... t-maker-2/

either of these will work but the black is the best, except when you try to remove it

Also sorry to see the finger  I have known that pain a few times :x

There's Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket. Says it's good up to 400 degrees. This might be a good choice.
