Had the day off so so took 2 of the bikes for a ride in spite of the 34 degree weather. It was super Sunny so didn't "look" as cold as it was.
Just changed the oil on the BMW so wanted to get some of the new juice flowing. And then just for general chores and fun around town theres nothing like the Patrol on a cold weather day.

Trailered it for 3 hours to get 2 hours (probably less, who knows? They never called to let me know it was done) worth of warranty work done (did I mention it was their fault?) to then immediately load it up and trailer it 3 hours back home. Hopefully that's the last time I have to deal with those @$$holes.

The bottom of my damper (2009) fell off on a rough road a couple of weeks ago. I'd left it loose because it wasn't needed and now without any damper at all I see no reason to replace it.

I have to wonder whether my bike is exceptionally well behaved and hydraulic dampers is total overkill?

Finally got the hardware and weather than I needed to install my baraholka boxes, so I did that.
2016-02-28 15.03.53.jpg

I didn't use the original kit or the 2015 cT update kit from UoNE because I didn't like how far away from the bike those kits place the boxes.
2016-02-28 15.03.03.jpg

They're triple-bolted and quite sturdy, but the bolts are all in line, so I think I'll add another bolt with a stand-off later to triangulate the mounting. Mounting the boxes so close to the fender necessitated raising the rear fender rack with some stand-offs.

All in all, pretty pleased.

Removed big lump of metal from back of engine that didn't seem to do anything. I think it was something electrical.

"Nose art". I get it. Very clever, Mr. Ltrypsin. Very clever, indeed.

How come dogs never have a bat in the cave??

Made a 3/8" thick aluminum spacer to move the pivot point of the hack windshield a bit to starboard. The frame was rubbing on the sidecar body on the port side and with my new upholstery going it, it needed some clearance.

When I unbolted that side, the windshield wanted to be 3/8" further from the body. So, made two improvement when trying to make just one.

Best part was the sun was out and could work in the driveway with just a flannel shirt on. Even the dog was content to flop on the blacktop and watch the world go by. Several bikes passed the house while I was wrenching.

If you do any off roading or have rough roads they will come off. With them mounted that close to the frame the rear brake housing will hit the bottom of the left side box. If it hits hit hard or multiple times it will bend the two lock tabs so one more hit will knock the box right of the holder.

How do I know this? I lost two boxes, one last year and one a month ago. Both were on the highway after hitting some large uneven surfaces, bridges, pot holes. The one time I lost it on a trail and was able to go back and get it but it hit so hard that it damaged the holder on the bike. On the highway I didn't notice until I got to my destinations an hour later.

Just filled up today while prices were low. 65.5 litres or just over 17 gallons.
