What did you do to your Ural today?

Postby RidesInRed » Fri Jun 15, 2012 1:35 pm

Over on the Kawasaki Vulcan forum where I also hang out they have a long-running "What did you do..." thread that draws posts almost every day.
Since I can't ride my Vulcan right now either, and can't take a trip to go look at the Ural I would probably buy if I could get to it (maybe next week, surely no later than the week after) I'm living vicariously through these two fora (plural of forum) for the time being. And making mostly pointless posts, sorry for that.
So let me start out the "What did you do to your Ural today" thread with this post:

Looked at her pictures on the internet and hoped she waits for me!

I got the title and registration transferred on Shrek. Gotta put the new plate on this afternoon. Then I gotta go mail the ginormous fairing out. Oh and I did buy some gorrilla tape and through it in Shrek's trunk. This eveving when it cools off a bit I'll be taking Shrek for a ride around the hood to practice my three wheelin skills.

Walked out the door, kicked it on the 2nd kick. Rode to Walmart and loaded her up with $200 worth of groceries, stopped by the hardware store and picked up two 50 lb bags of fertilizer and a big plant. Strapped the bags to the rack along with the plant and rode back home. The plant survived and wants to become my new hack monkey. Tomorrow.........take the #1 hound to his favorite trails in the woods and see if we can find some critters.

I rode her to work as usual (daily commuter), sprayed WD 40 on some of her rusty spots ( paint on my ToDo list ), oil a few more places and rode home. Sometimes I think she feels neglected.

Did my pre-check. Brought tires to specs. Oil, O.K. Took her out of the garage, one priming kick, turned on ignition, Kick her again. Started off with my daughter on some errands. Sun shining. We rode out of my neighborhood, engine warming up, as we cruised down towards downtown Winter Park. just humming along with brief moments of gears shiftin' and tranny crunchin'. :) Stopped for some breakfast, :hungry: hung out. Laughed... Rode the Ural back home. :moto: Couldn't ask for a more pleasant time... :)

Took the wife on her first ride in the hack home from work today. She remarked that we need an intercom of some kind, and I remarked that my birthday is coming up in a bit. She asked why we'd never had an intercom before, to which I replied that I didn't think it was worth it to have on to use once every two years (how often she rode with me before). When we got home I decided to tackle adjusting the idle and balancing the carbs. I did kind of a half-assed job since I think it should go with a valve check and I didn't have time for that today.

Wife and I rode about 50 km so I could get a chocolate malt and she could have a sundae, and then rode back home.

Took her on a three hour ride around the area. Stopped for some breakfast and had a UDF. The guy told me he sees me riding around all the time but can never catch me! He has an Indian he's trying to sell so he can get a trike. I wonder if I can sway him towards a Ural.

My Ural sat quietly in the shed as I drove my company car to work and rode my company bike at work. She will mostly likely sit the rst of the weekend. But fear not, she will be out and about somewhere on Mon and/or Tues! e
