Re: Other Shop Projects

Maybe consider sourcing Delrin or Cast Nylon from Bernie McCallum of Hobby Metal Kits. www.hobbymetalkits.com

You can e-mail Bernie at: bernie@hobbymetalkits.com

Re: A KLR Mod that is cheap and worth it

The hub in stock configuration has two slots cut in the edge of the hub bearing retainer in a lip that extends above the edge of the bearing. The speedo drive has a tab with two "ears" that are suppose to mate with the hub slots. If the front wheel and speedo drive are installed incorrectl...

That hub is fixable. See this thread. You may need to sign in to see it.

Speedo Hub Wattman Tool. See post #12 of this thread.

Re: You are getting a grinder for xmas

I have a welder but I don't know how to weld. :( Looking for welding courses at the community college or evening classes at local high schools is like searching for hen's teeth. Tried practicing but they all look like sheite but I can sure punch holes using a welder. :P  :P :( May I sugges...

My guess is an R35 which would be 1937-1939. Nice looking machine.

Re: Internal Wiring Handlebars

My guess is if you can keep the diameter of the hole(s) to 1/8 the circumference of the bars you will be fine. Drilling at an angle (along the axis of the bar) will give you the elongated hole maybe making wire placement easier. Use weed whacker cable for pulling the wires. If needed you can put a s...

Re: Red or Blue loctite?

A decent way to loosen thread locking agent on a fastener you can't heat with a flame is to heat another piece of metal red hot and then hold it to the fastener. Might want to hold it with vise grips or similar and not fingers. : ) Best, Jeff Wonder if one can use a soldering iron? :? Probably depe...

Re: Proud Dad!

Hi Jeff! Thanks! We still remember all your help and kindness with the KLR. Working on that engine was one of the most fun things he has done I think. I know he is very proud of it and uses what he learned there to work on his DR. I didn't know you had a Ural...or if I did, I forgot. Small world. D...

Please give Adam my best. From what I remember about the KLR drain plug time he is a wonderful young man. Your support and guidance has and will do well for him.

Re: Fuel Line Size

Fuel line goes by inside diameter. 1/4" is pretty close but I bet it is metric and not imperial.

Re: Read this if you use brake cleaner from a spray can !

Good reminder. Welding prep should often be done with acetone. Experienced welders will never use brake cleaner and will do there own prep to make sure it is done correctly and safely.

Or you could shim the base of the cylinder that was surfaced. Its not a high pressure junction. That way you aren't changing any running characteristics.

Good point. That is a fine option.

Re: DISASTER!

I decided against re-machining the cylinder mating surface. the sleeve would have to be removed. For the original insert repair, I fab'd a drill and tap guide. See photos from first fix. Lost it in the move. I'll have a local shop make another one out of 1-1/8 bar stock once the kit arrives and I k...

Re: DISASTER!

Thanks for all the input I am going to commit to going with a BigSert kit with 25mm inserts. I have noticed that the OTHER insert (bottom front) has made an imprint on the cylinder mating surface, so might as well do that one, too. In for a penny, in for a pound. I think I will take the cylinder to...
