Re: Ural and wheelchair

I wonder how did you resolved gear shifting? Ural gearbox has a control shaft accessible under a round cover on the right side of the box where it could be operated by direct 1920-style lever. Anyway the foot shift mechanism that moves that shaft is of crappy design so it may be even easier to chang...

Re: Top speed

Yeah, 2004 through 2006 models are listed as having the 1.19:1 fourth gear. Wrong. 2005 and 2006 models definitely have 1.3:1 fourth gear. At least in Europe, but I doubt IMZ made different gears for certain markets. Regarding top speed, my Ural could run 120km/h = 75mph stock. Stock 1.3:1 gearbox ...

... -Remove, disassemble and examine both carburetors for clogged jets and ethanol deposits ... Ethanol in gas decays into sort of goo/glue that blocks jets and channels or even bowl valve. It's usual cause of trouble with carburetor motorbikes that haven't run for months. It's notorious issue in c...

Re: I think I broke it... again. Gear box issue.

So, after looking into gearboxes, I've found there are quite a few different ones. Do I need the exact same one? Would a gearbox like this work? 2000 Ural Patrol Eastern Panhandle, WV It's old style gearbox with integrated air filter. If it's just cleaned used gb sold by some in eastern Europe, the...

Re: Timbilly's Wrangler

Is that Jeep Wrangler thing reasonably reliable?
It appears good offroad fun toy. But always when I talk with some Jeep owner here (mostly Grand Cherokees and other SUVs) he seems pi$$ed by replacing expensive parts way frequently. Almost like newer BMW car owners. That makes me afraid of buying one.

Re: Carb Issues

Vacuum ports need to be air tight closed when not connected to air tight petcock vacuum control port. Bowl vent ports should be open. Also compliance fittings need to be leak free. When everything is good, then start it up, warm up by keeping throttle open a bit. Then set up idle rpm by throttle lev...

Re: Weather proof gps

I have positive experience with Garmin Montana. I use that for years mounted on RAM mount, powered by motorbike. The power tap is from key switched circuit so the mount integrated converter does not drain battery when not in use. Display has no best resolution but it's clearly readable on direct sun...

Re: Proper Way To Check Oil?

The problem with final drive and to some extent with gear box too, is that people in some countries consider minor oil leak an issue. Oil dirt and small leak is not considered wrong in Russia neither in any of other countries where Urals were originally used. Even more, the oil dirt is really effect...

It's not big difference. Oil level does not need 1/8" precision.

Re: Harley-Davidson Close a Wisconsin Factory to Move Production to Thailand?

Harley already sells made in India 750cc bikes in Europe. HD has never been known for high quality standards but "made in India" has even much worse reputation than "made in China". If there will ever be prohibitive tariff on Russian production, you would not get parts shortage b...

This switch has following encoding: 0: nothing is interconnected I: 1-2-3 and 5-6 are interconnected II: 3-5 are interconnected Typical usage is that 0: everything off, I: everything on, II: only parking lights on. That's why you can remove key in II too. That means you need to wire battery to pin 3...

Re: 2010 Battery warning light blinking

My ignition type V (it's not CDI and I believe that Ducati Energia type is not CDI neither) was not happy with low voltage provided through charge lamp when kill switch is off. I rewired the lamp bulb so it is powered from kill switch by the same circuit as ignition and starter relay. Now the igniti...
